I really try to keep our family blog free of any controversy, but there is a current event that I think my opinion needs to be made known.
As you all know, I am a Religious Program Specialist in the U.S. Navy. I work directly with the Chaplains on a daily and very personal basis. I have had the privilege of working with Chaplains and service members of all different faith groups. Christian, Jewish, Wiccan, Hindu, Buddhist, and Muslim.
I am here to tell you that there are many, many honorable people who believe strongly in the freedom of religion that are currently fighting and dying for the War On Terror.
When ignorance grows so large in our country that a religious group is given a hard time on where they want to build a community center for people to learn and worship it breaks my heart.
I have had the honor and privilege of working with amazing Muslim people. They are not taught to be terrorists in their services. Believe me, I have set up for them and been present for services before. The Muslims that I have known are very peaceful with a strong devotion to their faith. I wish I had a fraction of faith that most of them have.
America, WAKE UP! It was extremists that attacked us on 9/11! Why is ignorance and intolerance spreading so badly in our beautiful country?
I watched this commentary recently by Keith Olbermann. It really puts this whole issue into an amazing perspective. Please watch it. I promise you will be enlightened no matter which side of the matter you are on.
